HOW IT WORKS
Our goal is to work with churches of every size who see the need to constantly improve their weekend services. We have not developed the perfect recipe of what your weekend services should look like. This will be up to you, your team, your style, vision, and calling within the community you are trying to reach. WSC simply exists to help you improve your weekend service. We will not attempt to take you into any new directions stylistically or philosophically. We will listen and then use our experience to help you go further faster.
Our belief is that the weekend service is typically the largest entry point for people to become engaged with your church. That means the quality should be at the highest level possible. Music, message, greeting, announcements, media, printed material, signage, and even the engagement in the parking lot should be carefully thought through and executed with precision.
Our journey has been full of opportunities to attend conferences, receive personalized coaching from national leaders, and experience rapid church growth while being on staff and serving at a large church as part of the weekend services team.
Our hope is to share what we’ve learned with growing churches. We recognize that many churches may not be in a financial position to spend significant dollars towards the initiative of improving their weekend service.
An initial engagement with a church could look like this:
- Saturday afternoon / evening:
WSC music team meets with your church’s music team. This is a time to rehearse together, share rehearsal techniques, prepare for the morning service on Sunday, and to learn how your team works. We want to study your situation and understand your style and preferences.
- Sunday morning:
For the Sunday service, or Saturday service if that’s when you meet, we can sing with your team or even give your team a break. We can be flexible and do anywhere from one special song to a concert / worship session of 30-45 minutes. Our goal is not to simply do concerts, because spectator music is usually a very small part of a service for a growing church; however, if your team would appreciate the break we are willing to share music from our recordings.
- During the service:
As the service and rehearsals continue, we will be observing and developing some coaching thoughts for your team. The experience of WSC is in all aspects of the service, not just the music, and so the notes we will be taking will consider your church service from start to finish.
- After the service:
We would like the opportunity to share a meal with your leadership team and talk through the rehearsals & services. It will take a few minutes to look over our notes and develop our feedback, but we will be ready to go within an hour of the service ending. A meal at the church or at a restaurant will be best, and it will be a working lunch. Sometimes it is more effective to bring in food from a local restaurant and eat together in a conference room somewhere at the church.
All of our feedback will point back to the Five Stages of Weekend Services, as shared on our blog, and we will continue to coach in each of these five areas.
Finances:
- The first weekend is taken care of financially with no obligation on your part. Whatever you can do as a gift will be appreciated. We also have product available for your church to purchase. A table near an entrance usually works great.
- For ongoing weekends or additional coaching, we will customize a solution for you that works with your budget. One approach is to come back monthly and work through one of the Five Stages each weekend with your team. Another approach is to provide coaching by phone with key staff and then come back one weekend to teach all of the Five Stages in a conference setting with your team.
- If you were to attend a conference with your denomination or at a large national event, you would be responsible for travel, food, and conference fees. Your costs could add up to $500-$1,000 per person.
- If you were to hire a coach to come in and offer personalized instruction and evaluation to your team, your costs could range from $2000 - $5000 for a weekend, once you add up their fee and expenses.
- We want to come in way under those dollar amounts. Just know that we feel called to do this and will absolutely work with your financial situation. Also, consider the benefits you will experience if your services continue to improve every weekend.
Your church is certainly doing many things well and we want to celebrate those with you. There will also be areas of opportunity, and we will talk through those graciously and optimistically. Ultimately, the observations we make are simply those – observations. If something we share can be a help to your team, then we are happy to discuss it further and suggest ways to improve.
As you continue to recognize the need for quality weekend services, word will spread that you are delivering a consistent experience and your attendance will increase significantly. It will be worth it spiritually, practically, and financially as you make the necessary changes to your church’s weekend services.
